In June, Sunset Park Promise hosted a Family Fun Festival at Lutheran Family Health Centers’ Family Support Center. Several hundred residents came out for information on local resources, face-painting, cotton candy, games, giveaways and the chance to for a photo-op with Batman! And if that wasn’t fun enough, we also had musical performances, ukulele, capoeira and dance lessons. It was a gorgeous, sunny day and a great opportunity to spend time with our neighbors!

In August, our Health Committee partnered with Project SAFE to host an Open Mic to increase awareness of teen health services available in the community. There was information about teen health clinics, education and support services for teens, civic engagement opportunities, and free HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, as well as handouts, giveaways and healthy snacks. About 65 youth attended and had the pleasure of hearing young people from Project SAFE share poetry, songs, and theater.

Our next open mic is in the works. Mark your calendars for October 17th!
